The main shopping areas in peninsular Macau are along Avenida do Infante Dom Henrique and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro. Other shopping zones can be found along Rua da Palha, Rua do Campo and Rua Pedro Nolasco da Silva.
The largest department store in Macau is the Japanese-owned New Yaohan on Avenida da Amizade opposite the ferry terminal. Central Plaza on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro just down from the Leal Senado has a concentration of top-end shops.

While exploring Macau's back lanes and streets you'll stumble across bustling markets and traditional Chinese shops. Rua de Madeira is a charming market street, with man5 shops selling carved Buddhas and other religious items.
Rua dos Mercadores, which leads up to Rua da Tercena, will lead you past tailor, wok sellers, tiny jewellery shops, incense and mahjong shops and other traditional businesses. At the far end of Rua da Tercena, where the road splits, is a flea market, where you can pick up baskets and other rattan ware, jade pieces and old Macau coins.
Great streets for antiques, ceramics and curios (eg traditional Chinese kites) are Ruade Sao Paulo, Rua das Estalagens and Rua de Sao Antonio, and the lanes off them; most shops are open from 10:30am to 6pm, with lunch some time between 12.30pm and 2pm.
The backstreets of Coloane village, especially Rua dos Negociantes, have shops selling bric-a-brac, traditional goods and antiques. One of the best antique shops in Macau i5 here: Asian Artefacts (Tel 881 022; 9 Rua dos Negociantes; 10am-7pm).

The St Dominic Market, in an alley just behind the Central Hotel and northwest of the MGTO, is a good place to pick up T-shirts and other cheap clothing. Rua das Estalagens is also good for this type of thing.

Macau produces some wonderful postage stamps, real collector's items that include images of everything from key colonial landmarks to roulette tables and high-speed ferries. Mint sets and first-day covers are available from next to counter No 16 at the main post office facing Largo do Senado and from Correios de Macau's Loja de Filatelia (Philately Shop; Tel 329 490; 789 Avenida da Praia Grande; .9am-6pm Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm Sat).
