The 101st session of Canton Fair has successfully fulfilled all tasks due to the leadership of the Ministry of Commerce of PRC and the concerted efforts from all relevant departments and the staff of China Foreign Trade Centre. On 30th April 2007, this great event has come to a successful conclusion.
The Canton Fair changed its name for the first time and added import function, which is the most important functional reform in the history of the Canton Fair and carries great significance. Opening Ceremony of the International Pavilion was held on the opening day of the 101st session of the Canton Fair. Leaders of relevant departments, provincial and municipal governments, ambassadors and consuls from various countries in China, celebrities from industrial and commercial circles witnessed this historic moment together.
Success the 101st Canton Fair has achieved:
1. The International Pavilion set up for the first time scored great success and enjoyed great prospect.
Over 1700 exhibitors of 314 enterprises from 36 countries and regions participated in the International Pavilion which accommodated 629 standard stands. The overseas exhibitors were satisfied with the exhibiting result. Institutions of foreign government, industrial and commercial organizations also demonstrated their willingness to organize more enterprises from their countries to participate in the Canton Fair. The popularity of the International Pavilion fully showed the focused attention from all walks of life to Chinese consumer market and great attraction of the Canton Fair which is the biggest trading platform. A series of 12 promotion seminars named 'the Canton Fair--A Road to Chinese Market' were warmly welcome by overseas governmental institutions and enterprises. Through setting up the International Pavilion, we have got precious experience in exhibitor recruitment, buyer invitation, and service improvement.
2. The number of overseas buyers exceeded 200,000.
In this session, the number of buyers from 211 countries and regions reached 206,749, increased by 7.3% over the 100th session, including 92,990 new buyers.
The African buyers reached 16,265, increased by 73.5% over the 100th session; the Asian buyers reached 117,134, increased by 9.8%; the American buyers reached 28,779, increased by 10.6%; the Oceania buyers reached 6214, increased by 5%; the European buyers decreased by 5.5% to 38,357. In terms of participating buyers, the top five countries and regions were Hong Kong SAR, USA, Taiwan Province, Korea, and India, whose numbers of buyers reached 29511, 13322, 10213, 7413, 6407 respectively.
This session of the Canton Fair received 95 famous multinational retailers, 15 more than that of the previous session.
3. The turnover of export hit a historical high.
The total export turnover of this session reached USD 36.39 billion, which hits a historical high with an increase of 6.8 % over the 100th session.
The trade turnover of machinery and electronic products reached USD 14.68 billion, accounting for 40.3% of the total, increased by 13.1% over the previous session. The trade turnover of light industry products reached USD 12.14 billion, increased by 11.8%. The trade turnover of garment and textile reached USD 3.31 billion and USD 2.78 billion, increased by 15.3% and 18.9% respectively. The trade turnover of Agricultural Products reached USD 1.16 billion, with an increase of 9.4%.
Regarding the trade turnover, the EU, the U.S and the Middle East ranked the top 3. Their trade turnover were USD 12.09 billion, USD 5.41 billion and USD 4.25 billion, accounting for 33.2 %, 14.9 % and 11.7 % respectively of the total. Export to Japan, Russia and Canada increased by 26.3%, 34%, 20.2%.
For the total trade turnover of different provinces and cities, transaction was mainly achieved by trade delegations from coastal areas, while Central and Western Part of China gained a rapid increase. Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Shanghai took the top 5, with a trade turnover of USD 9.36 billion, USD 4.96 billion, USD 3.8 billion, USD 3.3 billion and USD 1.84 billion respectively. Central and West Part of China also gained a rapid increase. Trade turnover achieved by Anhui, and Sichuan increased by 47% and 36.8% respectively.
Trade turnover achieved by enterprises of different types kept increasing steadily. The trade turnover achieved by state-owned enterprises, foreign-investment enterprises and private-run enterprises reached USD 13.44 billion, USD 5.13 billion and USD 17.82 billion, with an increase of 18%, 12.1% and 12.8%, accounting for 36.9%, 14.1% and 49% respectively.
In this session, there were 4,183 brand stands, accounting for 13% of the total stands. The trade turnover of the Brand Zone achieved USD 10.18 billion, accounting for 28% of the total.
Visit of the Canton Fair’s website accumulated to 120 million, increased by 1.4% over the previous session. Trade turnover of online intention transaction reached 460 million, increased by 4.8%.
4. IPR protection achieved favorable results.
According to the statistics, this session has received 570 complaints concerning infringement of IPR. 744 enterprises were complained, and 454 enterprises were confirmed to be suspected of infringement of IPR. 9 complaints came from the International Pavilion where 5 enterprises were complained and 2 enterprises were confirmed to be suspected of infringement of IPR. 561 complaints came from the National Pavilion where 739 enterprises were complained and 452 enterprises were confirmed to be suspected of infringement of IPR. The number of complaints from the National Pavilion, enterprises being complained, and enterprises being confirmed to be suspected of infringement of IPR, reduced by 12, 109, and 57, and the rate was 2.09%, 12.85%, and 11.2% respectively. The enterprises being suspected of infringement of IPR accounted for 3.23%, reduced by 0.41%.
The Canton Fair strictly implemented the newly emended Complaint and Settlement Regulations of Being Suspected of Infringing IPR and intensified the punishment of the enterprises being suspected of IPR infringement. Ningbo Changlun Electric Appliances Co., Ltd was deprived of the participation right for the forthcoming six successive sessions of the Canton Fair; Ningbo Reyda International Economic & Trade Corp. Ltd., China Auto CAIEC Ltd Corp, Wenzhou Import & Export United Co.,Ltd., Changsha Handysmart Enterprises Limited were deprived of participation right for the forthcoming four sessions of the Canton Fair; while NingBo Chaochao Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd was warned by the Canton Fair.
5. Continue to strengthen stand management.
In this session, the Fair sent 7 groups to conduct an intensive inspection among all stands. 6 enterprises violating stand use regulations, Guizhou Provincial Metals & Minmetals Import and Export Corporation, Chongqing Tianjia Daily Necessities Industry Co., Ltd, Zhonghong Associated International Trade Co., Ltd, Sino-horn Investment Co., Ltd, Shenzhen Yitaida Trade Co., Ltd, Tibet Jiaqi Economic and Trade Co., Ltd were deprived of the participation right in the next 6 successive sessions from the 101st session. The 101st session of Canton Fair received great attention from the domestic and international media.
